The Federal Government will do all that is necessary to check the security challenges brought by the activities of Boko Haram in the country and ensure the safety of the lives of Nigerians and foreigners alike
This assurance was given to the United States government by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, when he hosted the United States Political Counsellor in Nigeria, Mr Gregory Lawless, who paid him a visit in his office in Abuja, on Tuesday.
Okupe observed that the Nigerian government and the government of the United States had no major disagreement on issues of bilateral relationship and would continue to work together to strengthen its co-operation, especially on the operations of the Bi-National Commission.
He explained that the ties between the United States government and Nigeria had been built around issues of mutual interests and cooperation on economy, security and good governance and could not be destroyed by disagreement on one or two issues.
He added that the present administration would continue to partner with the international community on ways of guaranteeing regional security.
On the fight against corruption, the presidential spokesman said the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration had ensured that anti-graft agencies operated without any form of manipulations from government, in order to entrench the principles of separation of powers, as provided in the 1999 Constitution.
